DIY: Transform your shorts!

Once upon a time, there was a random summer Sunday in which I found myself with free time to do whatever I wanted.  I felt the need to bring out my creativity, as I used to do when I was little and had no responsibilities.  That's when I looked inside my closet in search of an ugly item to transform into a hot summer trend.  And there it was... a pair of not-so-high-waist denim shorts from Forever 21 that needed a fun injection.  Let's tie dye and rip the hell out of them!

Original Shorts:

1. Put them on and make a line where you want to cut them:

2. Start cutting until you are satisfied.
Keep trying them on, so you are sure of the limits:

3.  Take the tweezers and pull the little white threads, each one of them.
Don't rip them, just pull as much as you can:

4. Put your gloves on.  Mix water and bleach inside the big bowl.
Place the bottom of the shorts inside and wait.
After 10 minutes, turn them over and wait 10 more minutes:

5. Hang them in the sun for 1 hour and they'll become even more bleached:

6. Throw them in the washing machine, dry them and they'll be ready to use!  You can add some studs to one of the back pockets.  I'll show you later how to!

Ladylike Trend: The Peter Pan Collar

There are a few things to choose if you really want to look girly and ladylike.  For example, you can go for the catty eye liner, pearl earrings, pleaded skirt, stilettos or just the new collar trend.  Just like I said in this post, vintage pieces are girlier in my opinion.  Lots of trends today have to do with man-ish stuff like oxfords or boyfriend pants.  One should always add a little woman-ish detail to the outfit so we feel a little more flirty and flattering.  Again, that's just my opinion.

Last weekend I wore my new peter pan collar top from Zara.  I felt so comfortable and delicate with this chiffon/cat print/sheer/full of details blouse.  There are a four options to use the collar style: 1) top; 2) dress; 3) as accessory; 4) DIY.  Now I'll show you my new top and other ways to wear this fashion and cute extra piece.

1. Peter Pan Collar Top:

DIY: The Blazer Trend

Are you too rushed after work to get ready for a party?  Pack a cuter top, some extra accessories, a mini-skirt and use the blazer-trend at your best convenience.  In this occasion I'm showing a very simple way to transform a work-blazer into a party-blazer with lace and pearls, for a classy/chic look.

1. change the classic work blouse for a lace, sequin or sexier top
2. leave the blazer open
3. put on extra accessories
4. place a brooch
5. fold the sleeves
6. use a colorful mini-skirt or skinny pants

Here are a some pictures from the weekend taken with my cell phone:

I had dinner with my boy (sushi), partied with some friends,
went shopping (where i discovered a MK store!)
and to the movies (The Rum Diary)!

 How was your weekend?

DIY: Rock That T-shirt

I bought this black t-shirt last Christmas at NYC.  It was starting to deteriorate after a few uses [ take a look at the heart ].  So just before I realized it could be trash, I decided to make a trashy-top-look with it.  So if any tee in your closet starts to look like trash-material, think twice and get creative before getting rid of it!

You'll only need:
a useless tee and some scissors

 1. cut similar stripes all around the bottom of the tee
2. cut the sleeves and the neck
3. use the front and back part of the neck's seam to make two stripes
4. make two bows at the top of the sleeves with those stripes

& voila!
leave one shoulder out and ready to rock !

How was your weekend?!

Dotted Chocolate

You must be thinking... this trend-ish girl changes her nail polish like twice a week or what?  Well... yes!  I just get so fussy when they start cracking on the edges after  2 or 3 days.  I have seen lots of manicures with polka dots and I had to try it for two reasons: I like doing cute things to my nails and I LOVE polka dots!  This time I used two of my fave brands for nail polish: Bettina and Avon.  Both are so creamy and lasting.
The following steps will help you select the perfect color to polka dot your nails:

1. apply a solid color (2 hands) - I used brown this time

2. on a sheet of paper spread the nail polish you just applied (2 hands also)
and let it dry

3. select a few color you would like to use for the polka dots
to see which one is the better match and let them dry

I selected the light blue cause it was the one that gave a pop of color to the dark brown shade.

DIY: Let Your Ankles Show

I was shopping the other day and looking for some cuffed jeans. I quickly thought... WHY do I have to buy them if I can make them myself?  So I went to my closet and picked one of my favorite jeans.  You just have to fold three times at the bottom and... voila!  You'll make your look more casual and trashy.

Jeans: Zara
Shoes & earrings: GoJane
Belt: Forever 21
Blouse: Old Navy

DIY: Boho Braids

This weekend I finally learned how to do the french braid after spending almost my whole life trying it!  How?  The same way I learned to run bicycle, to skate, to swim and to belly dance: by myself.  I'm sharing a little tutorial to do braids all over your hair for a boho-chic look.

1. you will need two hair clips, two bobby pins and a hair rubber band
2. brush your hair and let it down
3. pick a little amount of hair from the front and start a simple braid
4. continue the braid by randomly picking other parts of your hair as you do it

 5. hold the first braid with the hair clip
6. do the exact same thing on the other side
7. pull your hair to one side and start doing a simple braid with it
8. put the hair rubber band to hold the whole thing

Final touch
Replace the hair clips with the bobby pins,
add some big earrings and you are ready to go!
It's okay if some parts are messy, that's part of the look.

Hope you liked it!

DIY: Good Girl Gone Bad

This blouse was hanging in my closet for a while now.  I used to wear it to work, but then I didn't like it anymore, so I got a bit creative and transformed it into a party top.

1. Original top
2. Saved the belt for other tops
3. Cropped it to the waist with some scissors
4. The result: Party top

[ a possible outfit with my new blouse ]

[ would use big/chunky accessories and dark purple/red nail polish ]

DIY: Colorful Bracelets

My mother and I just started to create bead bracelets.  We're just doing it for fun and of course, to use them.  The best part is you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a bunch of bracelets that will look great for summer and you choose the colors and pieces that better matches your style.

To start you will need:
1. A bucket of crystal beads
2. A bucket of plastic beads
3. Elastic/clear cord
4. Scissors

Here are some of our creations:
{ my favorite: hanging charms }

{ mix of crystals and plastic }

{ all of these bracelets for less than $30 }
